Emergency Dispatchers
The calls takers and dispatchers of the Metro-Tami Fire Rescue Department are the lifeline of citizens and visitors in the community and frontline rescue units responding to fire and medical emergencies. Working behind-the-scenes each and everyday of the year dispatchers are responsible for answering calls for service, providing life saving instructions to those experiencing an emergency, and coordinating responses with outside agencies. A dispatcher's primary goal is to ensure the proper resources are dedicated to an incident and keeping callers calm and safe until help can arrive. Newly hired MTFR dispatchers are placed through an extensive training program which include riding along with rescue crews, observing fire operation and extrication training, as well as dispatch-assisted CPR. While dispatchers hold an often thankless role they are an integral part in ensuring quality deliver of services by MTFR.
